The Roofing Factory process

GAF Timberline HDZ in Charcoal installed on a residential roof in Edmonton, Alberta

Our Process

The challenge of installing an excellent roof is in the details. At The Roofing Factory, we have spent years cultivating a detailed procedure by working and training with the worlds leading roofing material manufacturers. From underlayment, to trims, to our treatment of penetrations and flashings, our process has been developed to ensure that you get an absolutely worry free roof, every time, no exceptions.

Building the right roof for you

Clean Deck

Drip Flashing

Drip Flashing

Inspecting a clean, dry roof deck to assess structural integrity before installation.

We always start with a clean, dry roof deck. This allows us to asses any potential wood rot or structural issues that may be present underneath your shingles. The roof's deck is the foundation of the roofing system and it must be rock solid to ensure a long life for your investment.

Drip Flashing

Drip Flashing

Drip Flashing

Installing drip edge flashing to guide water into gutters and prevent roof deck damage.

Drip edge flashing ensures that water flowing off the roof will be guided into your gutter. Lack of drip edge can allow water to travel behind the gutter, and sometimes up onto the edge of the roof deck, causing streaking on the fascia, rotten fascia boards and deck boards, and icy patches on walkways in winter.

Leak Barrier

Full Coverage Synthetic

Applying Ice & Water Shield, Storm Guard, to prevent damage from ice dams and wind driven rain

Leak Barrier, also known as Ice & Water Shield, is a self-adhesive, peel-and-stick product designed to prevent leaks at the eave of the roof. This critical part of the roof deck preparation process, protects against water infiltration from ice dams and wind driven rain. Our standard is to install two rows, or six feet of ice and water shield in order to ensure we are at least 24" inside the warm wall of the home.

Full Coverage Synthetic

High Quality Roofing Systems

Full Coverage Synthetic

Laying breathable synthetic underlayment, Deck Armor, for added water resistance and breathability.

The modern replacement for tar paper, the Synthetic Paper is a semi-permeable woven polypropylene. This gives it superior water resistance and breathability. We always recommend a breathable synthetic underlayment over the entire roof deck to repel water that may get under the shingles, and to ensure that moisture from the attic can escape, keeping the deck dry for the life of the roofing system.

In order to ensure years of worry free existence with your new roof we pay attention to the details. Capped staples are used to install underlayments. Rubber grommet screws are always used to fasten vent flanges. The flange of every penetration on the roof is covered with peel and stick ice and water shield before they are shingled in. Metal, "W" style valleys are optional, but always recommended
